Former Congressman, Prof. Mark Kennedy interviewed by Emel Bayrak TRT DUNYA GUNDEMI on the air on March 31, 2014

1-Overall the local elections in Turkey have shown that the AKP party has retained its leadership positions in most of the major cities and many districts. How will this result be seen by Washington and the US public?
2)When we look back over the last ten years per capita income in Turkey under the ruling AKP party has tripled? Do you think that this, and a desire for stability were the deciding factors in the election?
3)US officials have said that Turkey is a strong partner and NATO ally and is very important in resolving the many difficult issues in the region from Syria to Iran. Do you think that today’s election result will help re-focus attention on these issues?
4) In the months before the election officials in US administration expressed the view that Turkey’s current direction was worrisome. Do you think the election results reduce those concerns?
5)In December 2013 you were interviewed by Bloomberg television on the importance of Turkey being included in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership currently being negotiated between the EU and US. Do you think that the election results will aid Turkey’s economy and strengthen trade prospects with EU and US?
